Fine craftsmanship on show
Bringing
out the natural beauty and richness of timber requires superior
craftsmanship - a skill that can be seen at its best in the
designer furniture at Soul of the Tree.
The
Australian-owned business has an extensive range of handcrafted
products, all made from Australian hardwoods, either from reclaimed
timber or sourced from sustainable forestry practices. No imported
or rainforest timber is used.
"We pride ourselves in bringing out the beauty of timber through
unique design and superior craftsmanship. This includes
made-to-order furniture", owner Carlos Varsavsky said.
Items on display at its showrooms in Balwyn and Eltham include a
complete range of tables and dining suites as well as buffet units,
sideboards, entertainment units and cabinets.
Unique corporate, home office and boardroom furniture, bars and
benchtops, bar stools, kitchen renovations and timber flooring are
also available.
Soul of the Tree also has an in-house design assistance and
quotation service. |
“From the DV to the
TV” “Renovation ideas from the Green
Wedge”
Diamond Valley News,
December 2004
At Soul
Of The Tree in Eltham, the term, Rescue Recycle Renew, is not just
a slogan, but an active part of its business philosophy.
They
have embraced the policies of the Nillumbik shire and the
Green Wedge plan; which focus on ecological sustainability,
long term enjoyment and quality of life. When approached by the
Channel 7 Lifestyle program Auction Squad, to provide
environmentally friendly bench tops for an upcoming episode, “we
jumped at the chance” said Soul of the Tree owner Justin
Linkins.
When it
comes to selecting building and furniture products, there is an
ever increasing awareness about the impact those products have on
the environment. The timber used in the bench tops comes under the
heading of ‘Eco Select’, which has been sourced from
Australia’s sustainably managed plantations, along with Soul of the
Tree’s urban salvage network.
Timber
is one of the healthiest home furnishings that can be used, Justin
said. This is especially so for those suffering allergies or
asthma. Our love for timber continues to be expressed both
inside and outside the home, being crafted into bench tops, solid
feature doors, dining settings and literally everything from
bedroom to boardroom.
By
using timber from ecologically sustainable sources, he says, it is
now possible to enjoy the rich natural beauty of timber without the
concerns of its origin and its impact on our long-term
environment.
Evidence of these
unique timber creations and Green Wedge architecture, can be
viewed at the recently completed “Bridges” restaurant and gallery
in Hurstbridge.
"Items preserve beauty
of trees"
Diamond Valley News,
November 19 2003
A
PASSION to harness the energy and harmony of forests and have that
live on in the home has enables Soul Of The Tree in Eltham to
transform trees into finely crafted furniture.
Owner
Justin Linkins said Soul Of The Tree used only fallen trees to
produce made-to-order furniture, including feature benchtops and
doorways, island benches and mirrors.
"As we
wipe away the aged exterior, we can reveal its beauty once again,
and thus the soul of the tree lives on," Mr Linkins
said.
"We do
a lot of urban salvage as well, and recently picked up a lot of
African Mahogany from Darwin. What people have planted over the
past 100 years is amazing and diverse."
He said
Soul Of The Tree offered a personal service and worked closely with
clients to create a showpiece for their homes.
"We
find the logs, do all the milling, drying and manufacturing and
that follows through to the customers," he said. "By taking it from
the tree to the customers, our prices are very affordable. It's a
good excuse to have a beautiful piece of timber in the
home."
"We
design made-to-order pieces, especially with benchtops, and we do
all the installation as well. We do out-of-the-ordinary work using
full slabs of timber and people can look at our work, appreciate it
and have it functional as a bonus."
Mr
Linkins said Soul Of The Tree was in its sixth year of
business.
"Our
work demands from customers have grown, particularly in the
benchtop area and feature doors. A lot of our work is word of
mouth, which is a fantastic recommendation for us," he
said.
